How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Between these to images there are key differences and similarities.
The similarities are that they bother have:
a objective gaze as they are looking at you, the hair styles have a resemblance, the fashion sense of a scruffy shirt and that just woken up look and the way they are looking gives a feeling of uncertainty or confusion to the reader.
Both differ due to :
The shot used, mine is a far shot but the NME is medium close, the NME is no different background where as mine has a blue room with general junk in the back ground making it seem more real.
In a demographic sense both the pictures seem to have a male gender in mind by the more masculine fashion sense, and both having a bold feel. The social status of the pictures is around the urban ABC1 around the 17-25 mark.
Psychographicly: i would say that they both cater to the same audience, the individual and the sub-cultures, mine would be the sub-culture of the emo's and skater kids, but NME would be more scene and slightly more chavy.
I see both magazines as subverting as they both show the youth culture, and the sub-cultures as a good thing compared to other magazines which say the opposite. Both magazines have a pro-consumerist stance as most of the money coming into the magazine will be from advertising gadgets, musical instruments, gigs and bands.
Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression form it to full product?

Looking back on my previous magazine attempt you can see a clear difference in ability to use the software available to the correctly capture the target audience.
between the two front covers you can see how i have improved on the importance of photography, layout, fonts and modes of address/writing that targets a specific audience.
When making the second magazine, i did a lot more research into the magazines that were already out at the time to make it seem more professional. It was also needed to make my magazine more specific to the genre and target audience.
To make my music magazine better than my college magazine I had to get to grips with the software I used because with out that I wouldn't have been able to have made it look anything like the magazines it relates to.
When writing for my magazine great focus was needed because, it needed to fit the genre/style of my magazine and agree the target audience i have for the magazine. to make the magazine right for my target audience and still have it as a good magazine, I used a lot of questionnaires and surveys with people who fitted with my original target audience.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My media product is quite similar to the kerrang and NME magazines that are already out at the moment, i believe my magazine would follow the same kind of mainstream distribution because it follows there style of magazine but goes into the gap that neither of them fill by focusing on the newer acts more than the main stream ones and also by helping its readers with there music by giving them the chance new songs at different levels, as in my contents page.
There would be an online version of my magazine, not containing the full content of the magazine because then it would never make any money and be a complete failure. I don't think there would be a TV channel for this magazine because, not only that the readers are more interested in comedy in TV, but the bands that it looks at aren't successful enough to have a music video out when they are approached by the magazine. There could be a possible radio aspect to the magazine, as most music in the magazine would have a song or two recorded.
I think the distribution of the magazine would be on a large scale, in major super-markets, news agents and available to get on subscription, this would be being on the same level as Kerrang, NME and Rock Sound. a smaller distribution would be good to start with but as the main distributing idea a larger one would be better because if there are less on the shelfs for people to see there is less chance for it to get noticed and to get bigger, if a radio station is to happen then a larger spread would be needed as the popularity grows.
With the target audience in mind, there maybe a deal with iTunes as most of my target crowd are iUsers so a Dinstick app or playlist would probably go down well with them, and it would also allow for a lot of people to preview the magazines music genre online before buying.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Whilst completing my media piece, I used: Photoshop and Serif Photo Plus to edit and put it together, whilst having a slight knowledge of the Serif software i had no knowledge of the photoshop software but I have quite rapidly picked up the software, quite quickly I was able to edit pictures quite effectively. The easy use between the two pieces of software made the drafting process simple and easy as I could take it home and spend more time on changes. Using my camera I found a new setting which allowed for me to select one colour and for the image to come through showing up only that colour and everything else in a greyscale, which i found very effective for my double page spread.
I used webpages also during the creation of my work. I used Blogger, obviously, Flickr because it has very good annotating devises and has easy transfer onto blogger. all my planning work was done using images from google which were all then replaced with my own.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
This picture shows my target audience, people with music on the mind, constantly going to gigs, like spending time with there friends, like having fun and are easily amused with shiny things.
My target audience are into, shopping (cloths, gadgets, music), skateboarding, computer games, parties and having a laugh. they listen to heavier music, not necessarily 'metal' but rock music and songs with a heavy drum beat and amazing guitar riffs. they like bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Rage Against The Machine or Foo Fighters.
Tv wise my target audience are into light hearted comedies or maybe something with high action and explosions.
My magazine would appeal to this audience because it contains all the things they love. My front cover suits my target audience though being quite bold, in-your-face and quite loud, the masthead, being quite random, relates to my audience because, to them random is good, nothing needs explaining if it works. The text on my front page shows my audience exactly what they want to see in a magazine and it is clear and easy to read, so my magazine isn't a chore to go through and isn't difficult to work out where their favorite parts are. There is no promise on the front cover of my magazine, as my magazine doesn't offer much to promise about, it simply says what's going on inside.

This is Jasper Thorn, he is a ideal model of mt target audience. his 'youtube' profile is idealy set as my target audience as it sjows, music playing with his guitar, skateboarding and a passion for video games somthing my readers would all love.

Brainstorming Mag Ideas.
The magazine name has to connote the correct things for my magazine, with a focus on new music but also a intrest with new technology and the new generation of party/fesitival/ravers that our now in out society. But more than anything it has to connote the sence of new things comming in.
Name Ideas:
'New Breed' - relating to the new generation coming in.
'Fresh' - again relating to the newness of what my magazine is representing.
'New Filth' - relating to new music and the party going lifestyle where no one really cares.
'Fresh Limit' - showing that this music is the limit of new music and other new technologies
Maybe use a acronym like:
'F.N.M.' (Fresh New Music)
I have decided to go for a name which is slightly abstract to the idea of the magazine, in that it doesnt connote new music but it does connote the ido of music through sound, 'Dinstick' the 'din' being a noise made by a 'stick' hitting it.

Double Page Spread Ideas
Using these ideas I will use the Lilly allen on in the top left. as it gives a good sence of attitude to the spread which will fit in well with my magazine.

My initial ideas for a new music magazine.
My music magazine will follow a genre specific genre which will focus on new music and for the majority: unsigned acts.
The new magazine will follow other music magazines such as Kerrang, NME and Rock Sound. The difference I will have from these magazines is that they are more based on main stream music with a little section on unsigned acts where as mine will have a lot on the unsigned acts and a smaller section on main stream acts.
The magazine will not have a specific genre to follow but will go on there status and have more information on them as apposed to the music.
The magazine will be aimed at 16-25 year olds. Advertising clothes, gadgets and other music based gadgets, shoes, instruments and music it self.
The magazine will show a range of different items but will keep to the unsigned acts and will look for lesser known items.

My Original Images
Evaluation of my pages
I think the most successful parts of the magazine cover and contents page are the use of colour and the pictures themselves. The pictures I chose to use connote a college life scenario with day to day things happening. The colour choice is based around the college logo colours to link the college with the magazine.
The text and font used on the magazine cover are simple and bold to make it easier for a reader to undertand quickly. The masthead for the front cover is a jumble of different texts to match the name of SIC, which also relates to the college as the Skills Improvement Centre is known more commonly as the S.I.C. On the contents page the text is simple but there is detail for the reader, so they can choose what they want to look at first. The fonts used give more of a welcoming feel.
The pictures connote the same as the fonts and texts used, the front cover is more manic with the masthead font and the picture, whereas the contents page is more controlled. The layout of the front cover is minimalist so the reader doesn't have to take in too much detail when just glancing at a magazine but it is kept manic like the rest of the front cover, the contents page is like the front cover to contrast the background and masthead, the shapes used are made to grab the eye of the reader, there are random elements to both pages like the circles, they are there as an artistic, graphical element.
The people I spoke to about these pages have said that the colours are garish and don't go to well with each other, they also said that if other colours where included then the magazine would have a better 'effect'.
While doing this I have learnt more about using PhotoShop, I had only previously used amateur packages. I have also learnt more about taking photos and lighting and placing text then putting the picture into it and other editing tricks.
